Trump Administration gives $35 million to aid human trafficking victims

Now more than ever, human trafficking is becoming something our country is being forced to address. With more than 2 million children sold each year through sex trafficking, child sex trafficking has been reported in all 50 states.

While uncomfortable to discuss, and disheartening to hear about, the problem continues to grow, with many roped into the false-hearted promise of a “fairytale”.

From things like Wayfair to Sugar Babies to Ghislaine Maxwell the problem of sex trafficking is becoming harder to ignore in today’s world.

Today, the Trump administration announced more than $35 million in Justice Department grants to organizations that provide safe housing for victims of human trafficking.

The $35 million in Housing Assistance Grants for Victims of Human Trafficking is being provided by the Office for Victims of Crime within the Justice Department’s Office of Justice Programs to provide housing and services to human trafficking survivors.

The grants will be shared by 73 organizations in 33 states to provide anywhere from 6 to 24 months of transitional or short-term housing assistance to survivors, including to pay rent, utilities or related expenses, such as a security deposit, the White House said.

The coronavirus pandemic has made safe and supportive housing for survivors more important than ever. Many survivors continue to be forced to live with their traffickers during stay-at-home orders around the country.

Selah Freedom confronts the issue of sex trafficking and is upheld as the model for how to effectively bring solutions to survivors of sex trafficking & exploitation.

Selah is a Hebrew word which means to pause, rest, and reflect. We give survivors a chance to do just that. Survivors in our Residential and Outreach Programs are provided the opportunity to dream again; to discover who it is they were created to be. Selah Freedom has served nearly 6,000 survivors, provided trainings for 25,000 children and intervener’s, and educated over 16 million and counting. 87% of survivor graduates from our Residential & Outreach programs do not return to “the life”.

Selah Freedom continues to hope for major advancements in the fight against human trafficking and provide support and belong to survivors. We urge you to join us in this fight.
